Gorillaz have shared a new short film, ‘The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God’.
Marking the release of their ninth studio album, The Mountain, out today via the band's own KONG label, Gorillaz has shared a new eight-minute short film directed by the band’s co-creator Jamie Hewlett and BAFTA-nominated animation studio THE LINE.
The film follows band members Noodle, Murdoc, 2D, and Russel as they journey across India, while exploring album themes from the journey of life to the thrill of existence. The band, having turned their backs on stardom, find themselves in Mumbai with the help of fake passports courtesy of a New York business acquaintance of Murdoc.
Watch it below.
Made across 18 months and with thousands of hours put in, the film is an “homage to the golden era of 2D animation that reimagines Gorillaz through a classic cinematic lens.”
Gorillaz’s ninth studio album, The Mountain, is out today (27th February), and features tracks including ‘The Happy Dictator’ featuring Sparks, ‘The Manifesto’ with Trueno and Proof, and ‘Orange County’ featuring Bizarrap, Kara Jackson, and Anoushka Shankar.
