Flea has released his third single in the run up to his debut solo album Honora. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers co-founder and bassist’s latest is a soulful, jazz-tinged instrumental cover of Frank Ocean’s ballad ‘Thinkin’ Bout You’ from the acclaimed 2012 record Channel Orange.
Inspired by the bassist’s love of jazz and taking its name from a beloved family member, Honora sees Flea providing lead vocals, bass and trumpet, with the album comprising a mix of covers and original material. The first single, ‘A Plea’, dropped in December and was followed up by ‘Traffic Lights’ in January, a collaboration with Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke. Honora will also feature a cover of ‘Witchita Linesman’ with Nick Cave providing lead vocals, alongside spins of ‘Maggot Brain’ by Funkadelic and classic jazz standard ‘Willow Weep for Me’.
Honora will be released on Friday 27th March via Nonesuch Records. You can listen to Flea’s ‘Thinkin’ Bout You’ cover now.
