Super Furry Animals have dropped a previously unheard track ahead of their upcoming early years compilation. Featuring actor Rhys Ifans on vocals, who was the group’s original frontman before departing in 1994, dreamy space-rock track ‘Pocket Sam’ is the first look at Precreation Percolation, a collection of the Welsh band’s early and unheard material.
Formed in Cardiff in 1993, Super Furry Animals originally comprised Rhys Ifans on vocals, Gruff Rhys and Huw Bunford on guitar, Guto Pryce on bass, and Dafydd Ieuan on drums. Ifans left the group to pursue an acting career, leading to Rhys assuming lead vocals and Ieuan’s younger brother Cian Ciarán joining on keyboards. Precreation Percolation, which releases on Friday 1st May, additionally returns the band’s debut EPs to vinyl for the first time in three decades, and features a bonus disc of material produced prior to the fateful signing to Alan McGee’s Creation Records in 1995.
The band follow up the compilation release with their Supercabra Tour, which kicks off in Dublin on Wednesday 6th May and runs until September, spanning shows in Glasgow, Llandudno, Cardiff, Manchester, London, Bristol, and more.
