Born Electric @ GlobalGathering

Mike Boorman salivates over the Born Electric stage at this year's GlobalGathering; the record label from Zabiela offering some dark and twisted bass drenched house.

There's a really strong line up at GlobalGathering this year, with pretty much every current genre of electronic music represented, and genuinely something for everyone. The Prodigy, Chase & Status and David Guetta are all heavyweight headliners, but what jumps out at me is the Born Electric stage - that's where I'll be setting up camp on Friday.

It'll be in the Global Freight Depot (David Rodigan's Ram Jam is there the day after) and is a platform for the record label of the same name from James Zabiela. We all know what he can do, and that's exactly what you want at a festival.

It's not about closing your eyes and getting locked in the zone of a dingy nightclub dancefloor - it's more about watching him perform his wizardry up on stage. Lest we forget what he did to us at A-Wing a couple of months ago.

I'm expecting the Born Electric area to be bangin', techy and just a bit twisted, which is what Zabiela has been sounding like on recent form. And that bass led techno sound he's been behind is evident with the people joining him in the arena.

First up is Kidnap Kid, who's more on a housier and garage tip but no less impressive. he's caught the eye with remixes of pop names like Emeli Sande and Disclosure, but I can see him bringing that rumbling bass to the arena for this showcase.

Dense & Pika, whose recent release 'Colt' on Hotflush was an absolute monster (above), will be bringing some huge sounds. They came out of nowhere in 2011 with their own untitled white label, which did so well they were snapped up by Hotflush to release the legendary 'Crispy Duck'. An entire set of their own stuff would do for me, but I'm sure it'll be even better than that.

Then there's some up and coming talent from Glaswegian Harvey McKay, who I've noticed has had some big gigs this year including Circus in Liverpool and Bedrock in London. His releases on Soma, Saved and Trapez have also shown a lot of promise, so will be one to look out for (check our interview with him here).

Pedestrian also leaps out at me. You don't get love from the techno community and Gilles Peterson unless you're doing something special, and ever since his soulful drum and bass caught the attention he's been shifting tempos and flipping moods brilliantly.

And completing the line up with more hot up-and-coming talent, in the shape of Pedram. Last year the man from Sheffield really broke through with his release on Born Electric - expect him to be throbbing, melodic and eclectic. Check out his promo mix for Global (above) for a flavour of what's going to be in store on July 25th:
