Disco behemoth, Tino Piontek, otherwise more commonly referred to by his stage name, Purple Disco Machine, recently afforded us an opportunity to take a sneak peek at some of the floor-filling anthems currently residing within his live set. Not only that, but he also agreed to sit for a quick chat, discussing everything from new music and his upcoming UK dates to the most prized album in his no doubt enviable record collection.

The eminent disco house selector and producer, for those who've been living under a rock for the past decade, is widely regarded as one of the best in the genre, with support coming from titans of the electronic industry such as Calvin Harris, Jamie Jones and The Blessed Madonna, to name a few.

Admired for his punchy, energetic and carefully assembled disco creations - check out tracks 'In The Dark' and 'Dopamine' from his latest album project, Exotica Deluxe - his back catalogue continues to draw a great deal of attention from audiences around the world, with over half a billion streams clocked up on Spotify alone. Now a regular feature on the biggest of stages and events, not to mention within the superclubs of Berlin, London and Ibiza, the sought-after German artist has unquestionably become the leading figure in the modern day disco scene.

Check out his exclusive Beats Per Minute playlist below, comprised of the records you can expect to hear at a Purple Disco Machine show this year, the likes of Manchester's Parklife Festival. Continue further down the page to read his interview in full.

Hey Tino! It’s a pleasure to speak to you and thank you for graciously agreeing to create a Beats Per Minute playlist for us. How are you, where are you and what are you doing at present?

"Hello there. I’m good thanks. Just back from playing a mini tour of the USA and Mexico, and now I'm in Dresden. I’ve got another three weeks to go before the touring season really kicks off so hitting the studio hard!"

I think we speak on behalf of all disco fans when we say that we’re very much looking forward to seeing you back in the UK this year, performing live at Manchester’s Parklife Festival and headlining your own show at The Middlesbrough Empire. What can we expect from your live set in 2022? Will we hear any new music?

"Thanks. Looking forward to my UK dates too as always. I’ve updated the set quite a bit from last summer, the last time I was in the UK. As well as my recent tracks and remixes, I’ve included new edits and mash ups to freshen things up. Plus, I'll be road testing some new music for sure. Hoping you all like it."

As previously mentioned, you’ve gone to the trouble of making a playlist for us, revealing some of the records we can look forward to hearing in your set this year. If you had to choose just one of those tracks to play at every show in 2022, which would it be and why?

"There is definitely going to be more than one track I play at every show in 2022 so I can’t answer this truthfully. Come to all the shows and find out."

Still with your live set in mind - what is your go-to, end of the night anthem? The record that usually gets the most reaction from the crowd?

"Right now, often my last track of the night is my track with Sophie and The Giants 'Hypnotized'. This has so far been my biggest success to date and as it is more downtempo and less energetic than the rest of the set, I think it fits perfectly at the end. The tracks that get the biggest reactions can vary from show to show, but I’m feeling pretty good about everything I’m playing so wouldn’t like to pick out just one track."

-

We customarily like to take this opportunity to ask our Beats Per Minute participants if they have any tips in the way of new and emerging artists? And seeing as you're such an influential name on the electronic scene, we couldn’t pass on finding out if there are any artists you think we should be taking note of?

"I’ve recently discovered an amazing US producer called Bosq who lives in Columbia and blends disco and house with Latin American and African influences. He is super talented and a really great guy, and we are now working up some ideas together."

-

Finally, if you have one, what’s your most prized record in your collection? Failing that, is there a specific record or album which holds particular significance to you and if so, why?

"Phil CollinsNo Jacket Required is very significant. My father is a huge music fan and he introduced me to this album when I was very young. It holds many memories for me and we eventually went together to see Phil in concert which was really special."
