            Fatboy Slim Biography

            Official website: www.fatboy-slim.org

Fatboy Slim embarked on his DJing career when he moved to Brighton to attend University in the early eighties. Along the way he found himself playing bass for leading indie, jangle pop giants The Housemartins. However it wasn’t until he broke away as a solo artists, remixing Erik B and Rakim’s ‘You Know I Got Soul’ that Norman Cook found his true calling. Hitting number thirteen in the charts upon release, Norman Cook under the name Beats International went on to record number one hits ‘Dub Be Good To Me’, followed by ‘Freak Power’ and ‘Tune In, Turn On, Drop Out’.

His success has continued ever since, particularly within the genre ‘Big Beat’ of which he is regarded an originator. His Big Beat Boutique parties soon gained legendary status, bolstered by his album release of Better Living Through Chemistry which contained the massive club success story ‘Everybody Needs a 303’, combining addictive acid tweaks with funky vocal samples creating a distinctly cheerful vibe.

Becoming the genre’s biggest and most successful artist, further recognition would come from number one remixes of Wildchild’s ‘Renegade Master’ and Corner Shop’s ‘Brimful of Asha’. 1998 saw the release of his most successful album to date ‘You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby’, with hits 'Praise You', 'Rockafeller Skank', 'Gangster Trippin' and 'Right Here, Right Now' becoming ubiquitous around the UK and America.

His blending of breakbeats with catchy melodies and riffs which often saw a rock and dance music crossover has been the key ingredient to his enduring appeal. Continuing to headline events across the globe, Norman Cook’s fiercely non conformist approach to DJing has seen him continue to be as relevant as ever, always exploring the vast possibilities of the medium, moving the boundaries as he does so. His lighthearted attitude and love of a good party have made him the go-to jock for some of the world’s largest dance music events, and his popularity shows no signs of waning.
