Biography

When it comes to house music in Scotland, there is no other DJ that holds the legend status more than Jon Mancini. Having been an integral part of the way the dance music scene is today in Scotland, it was clear right from the beginning that the future was always going to bright for Jon Mancini. He started in DJ’ing in 1988 just as the rave culture was starting to blossom and a year later he became resident DJ for the legendary night called STREETrave (which then went on to become Colours). From memorable parties in venues such as Ayr Pavilion and Prestwick Airport, Jon Mancini is a name that’s synonymous with raving memories from days gone by.

Whilst others may have faded into obscurity, Jon only kept the fire burning and went on to be one of the leading authorities on house music in Scotland. Jon hosted the Colours Mix radio show on Radio Clyde for 4 years and featured on various occasions on Pete Tongs Essential Selection, Radio 1’s Essential Mix, Danny Ramplings LGDP and Seb Fontaine’s Radio 1 show with a few guest mixes. He’s been part of the Colours family since the beginning and when an international superstar DJ is in town, you can bet they ask Jon to join them on the bill. Over the years he’s shared line ups with some of the world’s top acts such as David Guetta, Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, Morillo, Deadmau5, Sasha, Carl Cox, 2manydjs, John Digweed, Paul van Dyk and Afrojack to name a few. A ‘who’s who’ of dance music basically!

His talents haven’t just been displayed in his home country of course, as he’s played in some of the world’s best nightclubs and featured on the line up at some of the best festivals on the planet. Legendary venues such as Pacha, Space, Privilege and Amnesia in Ibiza are without doubt some of the highlights of his career. His close connection with Colours has seen him play in Portugal, Madrid, France, Germany, Ibiza, Bilbao, Barcelona and New York, making this man Scotland’s very own international superstar. Creamfields (UK), Global Gathering (UK), Homelands, Reading & Leeds Festival, T in The Park, Coloursfest, EH1 Music Festival and Live at Loch Lomond are just a fraction of the festivals that have been lucky enough to have Jon make an appearance behind their famous decks. He was also one of the DJs that you would have heard bring in the bells at Glasgow’s momentous Millennium NYE party alongside Dave Pearce on BBC Radio 1’s live broadcast.

Jon’s skills haven’t gone unnoticed in the past as in 1992 he was named in the top 10 of ‘Up & Coming DJs in the World’ by Mixmag, plus he was runner up in the Best Scottish DJ awards in 1992, ’93 & ’94.

These days you can still catch Jon playing at Scotland’s number 1 venue; The Arches, on a monthly basis as part of the Colours events plus other venues up & down the country. He’s never taken his finger off the pulse of house music and if the past 20 years are anything to go by, this isn’t going to happen for a long time.
