Fantastic evening; great band, Whitney K, think Television/Dylan/VU....superb night. And also wonderful support from Hank Bee (from Liverpool). Fab night (& great venue)

I thoroughly enjoyed Jarboes beautiful voice, as well as her dark, poetic lyrics and music.

Review of Jarboe + Jozef Van Wissem

Jozef Van Wissem's performance was excellent and Jozef was happy to greet fans after it. Unfortunately I can not say the same for  Jarboe -  Disappointingly, she read out text and did not sing at all, at least to the point we left (before the end). I had an open mind because I knew there would be an element of 'performance art', but the spoken word barely audible over P Emerson Williams effected guitar noise just wasn't enjoyable.  There was no interaction with the audience and Jarboe's 'stage entrance' was bizarre too - she wheeled a cabin bag round the front of the stage as if she'd just got off a flight, or been shopping - no drama or introduction. Doors open was delayed because of late soundchecks so we were turned away - not a great start to the evening. Attendance was low. but the venue had some atmosphere, although it is very dirty and run down.

The Lubber Fiend is a DIY music and events space in Newcastle upon Tyne opened in May 2022. We are one of the cities newest independent small-mid sized venues with a current capacity of 140 which we hope to extend to 200 in the near future. We are a DIY music space, a bar, a radio studio and a workshop. We can be a cinema, a place to host markets, record/art fairs, talks and other performances. If you have an idea get in touch with us.
