The Spot Club

The Spot has been a very personal project for me from the start, designed by myself and brought to life by the wonderful craftsmanship of my good friend Mark Barnett. This has been a 2 man project from day one. Having lost my father 2 years ago, himself a very respected musician who had worked with the likes of Stan Getz, Joe Cocker & Nancy Wilson. I spent my life growing up in the cabaret and music lounges of the 70's & 80's, which still carried echos of years gone by and the jazz lounges of New York etc. It always felt like home in those places full of colourful people and electric atmospheres, rarely found today. I worked very closely with the stage newspaper over many years and from their obituary found things out I did not know myself. Having worked and then later owned 3B Records a record store with a great reputation, I remembered the smelly damp unused space that dwelled below, and after a lot of persuasion, I convinced the building manger to let me have it and ‘The Spot’ space was born. I knew what I wanted it to look like and feel like, and after a years hard work, we finally completed it on the 19th of October, and what started as a show and tell for friends grew into a soft launch; complete with our local crooner David Knopov and his band playing with impromptu performances from Liverpool legends Thomas Lang & Connie Lush... Amazing Our ethos is to put on amazing Jazz, Funk & Soul live acts and DJ's for all to enjoy in an intimate and stylish setting with a nod to all those great speak easy's and jazz joints from years gone by and not to mention my Dad, Tufty Gordon.
