This event was advertised and sold as Reggae Bingo â Liverpool. The event delivered on the night did not correspond with that description.
My family and I attended in good faith, expecting an event centred on reggae and Caribbean-influenced music, a culturally inclusive environment, and an audience appropriate for a broad age range. Instead, the event appeared to be a different format entirely (Old Skool Bingo), with no reggae or Caribbean music, a predominantly younger demographic (approximately 20â30), and no visible Caribbean representation, despite the branding used to promote the event.
Given that the term âReggae Bingoâ carries clear cultural meaning, the absence of any reggae or Caribbean influence was particularly concerning. The event felt rebranded rather than authentic, which raises issues of cultural misrepresentation.
Additionally, the sound levels were excessively high. My 60-year-old mother required ear protection in order to remain in the venue, which further suggests the event was not suitable for the audience implied by the original listing.
When this discrepancy was queried at the entrance, we were informed that the event was âmeant to beâ Reggae Bingo. At no point prior to arrival were we notified of any changes to the advertised format.
At Â£18 per ticket, this represents poor value for an event that was materially different from what was promoted. Had the event been advertised accurately, we would not have attended.
I would advise potential attendees to exercise caution and to ensure that the event being advertised genuinely reflects what will be delivered.
