George Square

BBC Blast Creative Learning Festival, George Square, Glasgow. June 18th – 21st BBC Blast is a unique learning initiative that inspires and motivates young people (13-19 years old) to develop their creative talents and to showcase their work across a range of digital platforms. It’s a place to develop ideas, find contacts and advice, both from BBC staff and other professionals. The Blast website http://www.bbc.co.uk/blast/ is the hub around which most of this activity takes place. The BBC Blast truck rolls into Glasgow in June, transforming George Square in to the venue for an exciting five day long festival of innovative and exciting creative workshops, one to one sessions, and information on further education colleges in and around Glasgow. There will also be the opportunity to meet and work with BBC staff, who will impart their skills and knowledge to young people. We want to empower and instil confidence in the creatives of the future. As an example of some of the things that young people might be able to expect at this festival, in the pipeline, there’s workshops on: • Stage Make Up • Dance and Animation • Make a Movie in a Minute • Live Broadcasts to BBC Radio Scotland’s MacAulay and Co programme • Schools News Reporting – news, sport and weather commentary • Comedy • Hip Hop Shakespeare – a medieval Jay Z! • Drama and Photography workshops • Sport Photography workshops • Blast Fashion Label – the end results will be catwalked at London Fashion Week in September. There will also be a strong presence from the big arts and vocational based colleges around Glasgow who will be able to provide student facilitators and also information to young people about courses to further their learning opportunities.
