"It’s been one hell of a ride" - Warped Wednesdays at XLR ends after three years

 

After three years at the heart of Manchester’s underground, Warped Wednesdays at XLR is drawing to a close.

Launched in 2022 by Sebastien Hardwick, Eiron Casey and Mattik, the midweek UKG night at XLR has become a cult favourite in the city’s scene - one that combined community, consistency, and killer bookings. From early sets by rising locals to guests like Oneman, Cleopatra and Osmosis Jones, Warped carved out a legacy in the XLR basement, and this announcement will be met with equal parts sadness and commemoration.

 

In a statement shared on Instagram, the team announced the series would end this June, following six final shows. “After 3 incredible years of hosting Warped Wednesdays, we are sadly bringing the weekly series to an end,” they wrote. “Three years on, we have fostered a culture & community that we’re extremely proud of.”

Warped’s run has been about more than just music. The night’s roots trace back to a uni house livestream, and its evolution saw it grow into a launchpad for over 180 emerging DJs - many of whom have since gone on to festival slots and bigger bookings. “Creating a safe space for people to enjoy themselves, whilst also being able to witness some of the very best in the underground... It’s been one hell of a ride.

"Putting on a weekly show requires an incredible amount of hard work and dedication, and though we have persisted over the past year, there comes a point where we have to look back at what we’ve built, be proud of that and know when to call it a day."

They paid tribute to XLR’s Chris Hindle, the staff, the artists, and the crowds who “came week in, week out.” And while it’s the end of an era, it’s not quite over yet. The team has six final Warped Wednesdays lined up, starting April 30th with a back-to-back from Plastician and Just Jane.

As they put it: “Let’s give this series the send-off it deserves, we want to see all of you back down in the basement, old faces & new, shaking a leg for the very last few times at Warped Wednesdays!”
