After the announcement of nominees earlier this year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2026 inductees were revealed earlier this week, including first-time nominees Wu-Tang Clan and the late Luther Vandross. As well as Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, Joy Division/New Order.
Voted on by more than 1,200 artists, historians and music industry professionals, eligibility relied on artists having released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior. Though it is not his first induction to the Hall of Fame, as previously inducted through the band Genesis, his hits 'In the Air Tonight' and 'One More Night' earned him his recognition.
The early influence category honours Queen Latifah, Cuban singer Celia Cruz, Fela Kuti, rapper MC Lyte, and country rocker Gram Parsons. The musical excellence category will honour songwriter Linda Creed and producers Arif Mardin, Jimmy Miller and Rick Rubin.
Nominees who did not receive enough votes from the international voting body include Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, INXS, Melissa Etheridge, Jeff Buckley, Pink, New Edition and Shakira.
Also being recognised is the late TV show host Ed Sullivan, who will enter the Hall of Fame with the Ahmet Ertegun non-performer award for his role in platforming musicians in the 1950s and ’60s, helping break down racial barriers in American entertainment.
The induction will be held on Saturday 14th November at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, which will then be available to watch in December on ABC and Disney+.
