Read onto discover the best club picks in the city of Liverpool this month, as selected by Jess Heaton.

Winds that heave, falling leaves, the summer we grieve… But do we really? I think we have all now gotten over the initial shock of the coming winter, coats have reemerged, scarfs are being worn and hot drinks are seasonally spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon and clove. Who cares about summer, now that we have beautiful golden leaves and fresh dewy mornings?

Now is the time where we should embrace warm pubs, (especially Camp and Furnace with it’s big open fire) and actually stay in the club where the music is, not spending the night sat in the smoking area chatting to every bugger out there. A lot of good events are on the menu this month, so get out of your onesie, brave the cold and go listen to some good music.

First on the list is a great big banger as Subvert is back on the 2nd November for it’s monthly party at Revolution on Albert Dock. London reared Plump DJ’s headline the event, bringing Liverpool a sublime range of upbeat electro, rhythmic grooves and roaring breakbeat, AKA ‘Plump House’ as emphasised by above. The 8th (along with every other Friday) welcomes the smell of Food Slam Fridays as it wafts through The Baltic Triangle. Seeing as I mentioned it’s amazing indoor fire, I thought why not enlighten you with one of the greatest nights in Liverpool. Tasty grub, a good selection of booze and great vibes coming from a man in a caravan.

The week that follows is one small step for man, a giant leap for mankind as Food Music and Circus Recordings artists Make No Sense embark on a new venture. Their new club night COAX launches on 15th November with electronic duo, Audiojack as their headliner. A day later on the 16th appears to be a huge night with parties happening all over the city. My favourite three in no particular order begins with Chibuku Shake Shake at the East Village Arts Club. Dusky (listen to their stunning 'Rise for Love' below), T Williams, Klangarussell, Cyril Hahn and Ben Pearce are all set to play this feisty line up, with deep house grooves, super sonic bass and warm pop vocals being a promise.

Over at The Kazimer, Little Sister present Border Communities with label head honcho James Holden headlining the event. Luke Abbot, Ghosting Season and Adele Moss complete the bill. Fairly new and exciting venue The Garage welcomes the next installment of Rubix’s parties as they present Italian house producer and DJ, Leon and emerging Hungarian talent, Reelow. Dubbed to be an excellent underground affair. By me.

Now an out-and-out Friday night badge holder, Less Effect are back and are hosting their third party on the 22nd November. Yes that’s a Friday, wahoo! Tight techno duo Allen & Hutch and Jamie Haus top the bill along with some of the beefiest upcoming producers, that one at another Baltic triangle hotspot Haus Warehouse.

Slight musical dovetail, but on the 23rd legends UB40 play the Anglican Cathedral - how amazing. Not only is it UB40 (a band that means a lot to me from being brought up listening to their music) but also they are performing in one of Liverpool’s most incredible architectural landmarks. Not one to miss if you are fan.

The month draws to a close with Motion’s 1st Birthday Special with Greg Wilson playing b2b with Derek Kaye on 29th November at the mysterious, Fallout Factory Art Gallery. Expect disco grooves, warm house and a whole night of fun. A venue I must check out as it’s not currently on my radar.

Golden Ticket

My golden ticket goes to 303 presents Selador records showcase with Dave Seaman on 23rd November. Being held in the sensational and historic Williamson Tunnels, he takes the reins with a 3 hour monster set in the old mine shaft. Joined by Steve Parry and 303 residents, the low ceilings and intimate space is the perfect venue for an underground house and techno revelry.

Dave Seaman made clubbing history this year with the first ever crowd-funded mix compilation, which is a really exciting image of where the music industry might be heading. With heaps and heaps of experience there is simply no doubt this event is going to be off the scale and with a very tight 250 capacity, I’d buy your ticket quick so you can get up close and personal with Dave in cave.
