Selective Hearing continue to courts our affections with the announcement of their next night. Joining forces with the always impressive underground party starters Abstract, the pair welcome two of Europe's most important figures of proper techno to Leeds Warehouse on May 31st.
Up first is Marcel Dettman. As iconic techno clubs go, Berghain ranks among the very finest, and in many ways its success and notoriety has been shaped by its resident DJs. Since the very start, Marcel Dettmann, alongside Ben Klock has been at the forefront of purveying the clubs underground, devoted approach to techno.
His productions on Ostgut Ton and on MDR (Marcel Dettmann Records, in case you were wondering) continue to lay down the gauntlet for the rest, as his stripped back, rugged sound repeatedly showcases an uncompromising vision of boiled down, bare components, never using more than is needed, with electrifying and singular results. Check out 'Push' above to see what we mean.
One of Britain's most important figures in techno joins him - Surgeon. With a career that stretches back 20 years, Surgeons brutal, pulverising sound has also been one of UK techno most's defining.
His work with Regis under the British Murder Boys alias saw the arrival of a potent, searing force in piledriving techno that sounds as fresh now as ever. His solo work that sees him marrying alien ambience with low end bass throbs and crushing mid range drum caverns (above) continues to be felt across the techno spectrum, whilst his DJ sets are similarly intoxicating.
This is going to be heavy, in all the right ways. For the techno heads out there, this is genuinely unmissable. Bag your Marcel Dettmann and Surgeon tickets here.
