Part of the post punk movement of Manchester, A Certain Ratio were of the same calibre of the ever influential Joy Division and were even signed to the same infamous label founded by Tony Wilson, Factory Records. Originally a punk band, ACR added funky basslines and pop-y synth style keys, as well as dance elements to their sound, creating a genre sometimes referred to as post punk funk.
