Independent Venue Week Spotlight: E.B.G.B's, Liverpool

Independent venues are the unsung heroes of our local music scenes. They provide a space for us to meet like-minded music fans, discover our new favourite artists, and enrich our lives.

Independent Venue Week recognises the fabulous work our local venues do by taking some time to appreciate some of the best bars, clubs, rave locations, arts venues, and live music spaces we have across the UK. And we’re joining in! This time, we’re taking a look at E.B.G.B’s in Liverpool. 

If you’re a Liverpudlian, chances are you’ve heard of Heebie Jeebies and The Jacaranda Club. If you love them, it’s time to check out E.B.G.B's, if you haven’t already. And if you have, well, why not give them another visit for Independent Venue Week? They’ve got some special events lined up purely for the celebrations, including the events listed in this article.

Tickets for Big Toys - Independent Venue Week | Monday 30th January

E.B.G.B's is the brainchild of those behind Heebie’s and Jacaranda. A new bar and club with an intimate capacity of 200, you can find this little venue in the 250-year-old basement cellar of Heebies. Pretty convenient! 

Joe Maryanji of E.B.G.B's said it’s “a place where you can feel cool in our Lone Wolf Bar or dance your socks off until the sun comes up in the club room”, highlighting the venue bridging the gap between bar and club.

Tickets for Hip Hop HQ - Independent Venue Week 2023 | Tuesday 31st January

When you walk down into the basement, you’ll notice exposed brickwork, creating a rugged, relaxed vibe, neon signs, low ceilings, and people who love to let loose to some tunes.

The aforementioned Lone Wolf Bar is a grungy, biker-inspired room with both cheaper and high quality drinks available, while the club room will host nights including popular indie night Liquidation and nightly performances. Even renowned indie night, This Feeling, known for showcasing bands such as The K’s, The Lathums, and The Struts before they blew up, is due to take over on the 28th of January.

Tickets for The Sukis - Independent Venue Week 2023 | Saturday 4th February

E.B.G.B's doesn’t discriminate when it comes to genre, allowing artists of indie, rock, jazz, funk, pop, R&B, hip hop, country, blues, punk, hardcore, folk, ska, dance, and more to take to the stage. So no matter what kind of vibe you’re seeking, they’ll have something for you to get down to.

If you want to support this killer little venue, now’s the perfect time. It has four special IVW gigs to celebrate, and all tickets are less than a tenner, with some less than a fiver. You’ll support a cracking little venue, up-and-coming artists (who could turn out to be your new faves), and have a brill night out. It’s a no-brainer.
