Clubs don't come more revered than Parisian nightspot Rex Club. Established back in the early nineties by underground ambassador Laurent Garnier, the club has continued to thrive on the world stage, championing the cutting edge of techno and house.

Having joined Rex six years back, resident DJ Pepperpot has played a key role in Rex's role at the forefront of French dance music. Ahead of his appearance for Kehakuma at Studio 338 this weekend (head here for free entry), we spoke to Greg about the records that have played a vital role in Rex Club and his residency there over the years. This is what he had to say:

It was really hard for me to make a selection of five tracks that represents the Rex Club, a club that’s defended and represented electronic music for 26 years. Maybe Laurent Garnier would have been able to do it, like Craig Richards or Terry Francis would for Fabric. Even if I had the only monthly residency for six years in the last decade in The Rex history I can’t pretend to set up a top five for the Rex Club.

Nowadays the residents have their own nights with their own musical imprints: D'julz has Bass Culture, Phil Weeks has Get Underground, Molly has Head_On, and I have HelloSo the selection I have made represents some of my favourite tracks, and tracks I that I have played a lot for Hello at Rex and that also represent the night.

The Wykamen 'Basket'

Basenotic Records 1996 (France)

Initially released on the UK label Illsun Wreckords as a white label, this track was re-released on the great French label Basenotic Records as a various artist compilation in 2002. The bass on this track is amazing and its dark atmosphere creates something really special every time I play it.

Thor 'Aliens Don’t Boogie'

AE Recordings 1999 (Iceland)

An amazing dub techno track from the Icelandic master Thor released on AE Recordings. This track has an amazing vibe and atmosphere. Definitely one of my favourite tracks.

Kassem Mosse 'Zolarem'

Mikrodisko 2006 (Germany)

This was first released on the German label Mikrodisko on the various artists EP 'We call it Mikrodisko'. I love all the music from Kassem Mosse but this one is something special. A particularly vaporous atmosphere that makes me float when I listen to it.

Galcher Lustwerk 'Tape 22'

White Material 2013 (USA)

The 'Tape 22 EP' was the third release on the US label White Material run by Young Male and DJ Richard. Galcher Lustwerk produces more deep house music but the Tape 22 track is more techy. The flow of his voice and the rhythm on this track are amazing. It was released two years ago but its still a track I love to play.

D'julz & Phil Weeks 'Ligne B' (Trus'me Pourquoi Pas Mix)

Rex Club Music 2015 (France)

To end this selection, I chose the first release on Rex Club Music. It took 26 years of gestation for the Rex Club to finally have its own imprint. A collaboration between two of the main Rex residents and renowned French artists: D’julz and Phil Weeks. I particularly like to play the remix by Trus'me. The vinyl is released this month. Check it out!

Kehakuma resumes its residency at Space Ibiza this summer, starting on June 6th. Head here for the more on Kehakuma Ibiza.
