Essential Listening: House and Techno

Desire - Chris Stussy

Chris Stussy, who’s rapidly taking over the world and even landed among your most-searched artists of 2023, has finally released a follow-up to his October 2023 EP ‘Midnight Playground’

Desire is one of those tracks that’ll have you bouncing in your seat the second that hypnotising, groovy bass kicks in. A real summer anthem, we can picture a field full of ravers, sunglasses on, pumping their hands in the air as the sun sets on the tipsy festival crowd.

An airy section allows you to soak in the richness of the production before it launches back into feel-good vibes and mesmerising synths.

Essential Listening: Indie and Alternative

Uptight - Home Counties

Funk and dance-laced tired-of-clubbing indie anthem Uptight details the downsides to clubbing like the bar running out of Red Stripe early, long queues to get in, and pints being too expensive.

The track is a bit self-conscious as the lyrics cover the worry of being seen as uptight due to not enjoying the sh*ttier venues the nightlife scene has to offer. Still, the band have also said it’s also a “celebration of these sh*t places - of saying ‘f*ck it, I’ll come out’ and ignoring the grumpy old man tendencies you have prematurely developed.”

Likely a little LCD and Talking Heads influenced, the band still manages to sound fresh and new. Their debut album ‘Exactly as it Seems’ is due in May. Secure tickets below to see them live just before their debut drops!

Counting - Simula remix

After us DnB heads hearing this remix floating around for a few months, it’s finally on Spotify! This absolutely mad remix of Hamdi’s Counting is brought to us by none other than Simula.

Sampling one of the most iconic vocals in dance music, there’s no amount of preparation you could do to get ready for the madness that comes after the counting. Drifting between trippy, fazing synths, froggy wubs that make you feel underwater, and bouncy breakdowns decorated with ASMR-style clicks that tickle the back of your brain, this one’s a real trip.

Jumping around with such finesse, we’ve got plenty of sounds here to keep you on your toes, making the track nothing short of exhilarating. Hear the full track on our DnB playlist embedded above the video!

Essential Listening: Hip-Hop and Jazz

Sunday Stroll - P. Louie, Conway the Machine, #Bo

Constantly releasing, with three collab albums and one of his own in 2023, Conway is back even though he never really left. This time, he’s on P. Louie’s track with #Bo.

Complete with an irresistible hook and bars over an airy, bright acoustic beat paired with a very vintage-sounding piano, this one sounds like it could be from a good few decades ago. If they had had incredible recording equipment and hard rappers back then.

Another solid addition to Conway’s discography, he stays killing the laidback rap game and continues to be one of the most sought-after features in hip-hop, period.
