Anthony Almeida's Othello receives rave reviews ahead of ten day stint at HOME theatre

HOME Theatre is set to become the temporary home (pardon the pun) to Anthony Almeida's adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello. The award-winning director has collected an array of five-star reviews from critics ahead of opening night, tonight, 30th September 2026.

This iconic Shakespearean tragedy has been reimagined by Almeida, exploring the meaning of belonging, authority and identity in a society in the midst of transition. By shifting the landscape to early 1980s Britain, against the backdrop of the Falklands War, Almeida explores how love, loyalty, identity and power are expressed in the everyday. The director notes: "I don’t think Othello is really a play about jealousy. Jealousy is the symptom. The tragedy begins much earlier - in the tiny acts of adaptation, restraint and performance we all make in order to belong".

Othello runs for just ten days at Home Theatre, from 30th September to 10th October. With overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, don't miss out on this one.
