                      Crystal Kids - Manchester

Wow! That was a totally unexpected, amazing, night of truly energised dance and lovin’ vibes...still buzzin’ thinking about it...

Picked up by my psy brother, Peyman Forouhar around 11 and we were in Manchester twenty minutes later, but were then caught in the most outrageous traffic jam/roadworks and the last quarter mile took us a full hour to negotiate and get parked...

So, we fell into an already electric atmosphere and one of the most outstanding DJs anywhere on planet Earth, Rena Psibindi was taking to the decks. Oh my days, this lady is simply a revelation, a proper tour de force. She doesn’t just play and live mix, but she channels this music from on high, it truly was an ethereal experience and at times the dance floor seemed to be one single conjoined entity, no mean feat...I’m lost for words really, this was genuine Spiritualised psy trance of the highest order…

Thought I’d better go and cool off, but ended up in the techno room and whoever was playing there was really rocking the room and I ended up kicking off there for half hour or so to some really trippy and hypnotic techno beats...And saw a wonderful young couple enjoying the beats, one an obviously pregnant lady, being properly looked after by her man...such a pleasure to see and I think a most beautiful new human will be coming soon...

Went outside to proper cool down and met some real lovelies, not least two young friends, a beautiful couple, Chris and Beck Ster, who I’d last met when doing healing workshop at Noisily. Haven’t forgotten our chat, darlings and feel free to message me regards such, any time...

Then caught the last forty minutes of the divine DJ genius that is Lorraine Jones - I know I big up this inspiring psy being at many events, but everyone on the circuit now knows the simple call to dance, “Lorraine’s playing!”, to be a clarion call to pack the dance floor and proper kick off again together. Such a joy seeing so many brothers and sisters of dance around me - special mentions for the inimitable dance machines, Mark Fellows, Re jal and Daniel James Johns Kenyon, with whom I seem to be sharing so many dance highs with of late - long may it continue! And I have to say, going toe to toe with some delightful young lovelies, with huge smiles lighting up the dance floor, was never less than a huge delight to this particular ole dancer - you wanna stay young? Dance out with youngsters - you’ll never grow old!! So, thank you Lorraine for another world class set, that at points was almost all encompassing and beyond just music...

Back out for chill down and more engaging chats with some proper sweet souls...it really was a loving and hugely welcoming vibe, wherever you went.

Then returned for a lady who played through till 4 o’clock, whose name escapes me (anyone?) and yet another simply awesome set, full of power and joy. I live for nights like this, where dance is treated as a proper full on Spiritual experience, not just a stomp or a DJ’s misplaced ego taking precedence to the collective vibration. I really was in dance heaven!

And I must now reference a conversation with a dear young friend, who I have followed as she learnt her DJ craft and has now become a most empowered arbiter of dance, DJane Anastasza ... Some time ago, I expressed my frustration at the creeping infringement of Hi-Tek into the psy scene - a step too far and too fast, I opined at the time... Well, that caused more rumblings of discontent and indeed much critique both for and against, than virtually any other post I’ve put out in the last year... Henry Gardner, that’s why I didn’t join in on today’s further heated debate on such!

However, Ana was playing last up and it would be hi-Tek and she very enthusiastically asked me to stay long enough to just give it a chance...how could I refuse? Sadly, I knew we couldn’t stay long, as Peyman had to drive back to Leeds, after dropping me home en route, but I managed fifteen minutes or so and I must say, I did get it. Firstly, my initial response to hi-tek is that no one can possibly dance that fast and last more than a minute or so - and I’m correct! But, I found the answer - don’t go faster, slow down, don’t try to react to the speed but instead try to interpret the rhythm. And so, for a short while I busted shapes and concentrated on moving half in sync, instead of full on. And it was much more intuitive and far more enjoyable than I expected...

Now, I’m not going to be seeking it out at events, as I think you all know where my dance heart really lies, but it is definitively not the blight on the scene I’d intimated it was. An interesting and thoughtful end to a perfect evening from my point of view. Nice one, Anastasza and also big shout to your partner Izak Djprozak Champa, with whom I had a most enjoyable interaction with on another chilled interlude.

Finally, must thank the organisers of this all female collective. If this doesn’t prove that our psy ladies are a match and more, for the menfolk, then you weren’t there to hear it. This was immaculate, a night worthy of a full Ond write up! And a big blessing to the very chilled doorman who initially took my couple of bottles of salted water off me at the door (stops me getting cramps). On seeing me dance he very kindly insisted on giving me them back as he obviously realised I was not pulling his chain....

And that sums the night up, a genuine pleasure. Sorry I missed some others, who I’m sure were just as vibrant and lively, but I’ve only two legs and they need proper breaks these days! I’m now a Crystal Kids convert, which, as I approach my 65th birth-day, is a lovely surprise and a proper blessing...

                      Until next time!

                      Big love to all
