About Tosca
Tosca is an opera set in a concert hall in an unidentified European state overtaken by civil conflict. Floria Tosca, an opera singer, arranges a secret meeting with her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, before the corrupt police chief Scarpia intervenes and the night turns into one of fear and violence.
Across one night, Tosca is forced to fight for her love, her honour and her life. It can be seen as a stand-alone performance, or alongside Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Mater as part of ENO’s 2026/27 season, where both operas are presented as part of a wider exploration of the human cost of war and the resilience of the human spirit.
