Tosca is set in a concert hall in an unidentified European state overtaken by civil conflict. Opera singer Floria Tosca plans a secret meeting with her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, but the corrupt police chief Scarpia intervenes and a place of music becomes a site of fear and violence.
Across one night, Tosca is forced to fight for her love, her honour and her life. The opera can be enjoyed as a stand-alone performance, or alongside Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Mater as part of a broader exploration of the human cost of war and the resilience of the human spirit.
Tosca features in ENO’s 2026/27 season.
