About Romeo & Juliet

Romeo & Juliet at the London Coliseum is Shakespeare’s story reimagined as a ballet. Set in Renaissance Italy, it follows the Montagues and Capulets as their feud moves towards violence, while Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall in love across the divide.

Created by Rudolf Nureyev for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, this production is now in its 50th anniversary. Prokofiev’s dramatic score is performed live by the English National Ballet Philharmonic, bringing added force to the story’s movement, tension and tragic ending.

The ballet presents the conflict between love and hatred on stage, with the story moving from first attraction to its final devastating embrace.

Before you book

Age guidance: Recommended for ages 10+. Patrons aged 15 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. The performance contains strobe lighting, themes of grief and revenge, and descriptions of violence.

Entry and ticket terms: No latecomers will be admitted, and there is no readmittance except during the interval. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase. The production cannot guarantee the appearance of any specific actor due to illness or unforeseen circumstances.
