Romeo & Juliet is Shakespeare’s story of love and conflict reimagined as a ballet. Set in Renaissance Italy, in the city of Verona, it follows the Montagues and Capulets as family tensions move towards violence, while Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet fall desperately in love across the divide.
This production was created by Rudolf Nureyev for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 and is now in its 50th anniversary. English National Ballet Philharmonic perform Prokofiev’s dramatic score live.
The ballet traces the story from love at first sight to its tragic conclusion.
