About Romeo & Juliet

Romeo & Juliet is a ballet reimagining Shakespeare’s tragic story of love, conflict and loss. Set in Renaissance Italy, in the city of Verona, it follows Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet as they fall in love against the backdrop of rising tension between the Montagues and the Capulets.

Created by Rudolf Nureyev for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, the production is now in its 50th anniversary. English National Ballet Philharmonic perform Prokofiev’s dramatic score live, adding to the production’s intensity throughout.

The ballet moves from first meeting to the final tragic embrace, with the relationship between the two families shaping every stage of the story.

Running time: 2 hours 55 minutes incl. interval. Music: Prokofiev’s score is performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic.

Before you book

Age guidance: Recommended 10+. Patrons aged 15 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. The performance contains strobe lighting and includes themes of grief and revenge, as well as descriptions of violence.

Entry and tickets: No latecomers and no readmittance except during the interval will be in place for this production. No exchanges or refunds after purchase. The production cannot guarantee the appearance of any specific actor due to illness or unforeseen circumstances.
