About Romeo & Juliet

Romeo & Juliet is a ballet reimagining of Shakespeare’s story of love, conflict and tragic consequences. Set in Renaissance Italy, it follows Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet as they fall in love against a backdrop of tension between the Montagues and the Capulets and a city on the brink of violence.

The production was created by Rudolf Nureyev for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 and is now in its 50th anniversary. The English National Ballet Philharmonic perform Prokofiev’s dramatic score live, adding weight to the production’s emotional pace and stage action.

Described by The Telegraph as “as vital, as alive and as stirring as can be”, the ballet moves from first meeting to final loss, with the familiar story brought to the stage in a direct and dramatic way.

Before you book

Age guidance: Recommended for ages 10+. Patrons aged 15 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. The performance contains strobe lighting and includes themes of grief and revenge, plus descriptions of violence. No latecomers will be admitted, and there is no readmittance except during the interval. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase. The production cannot guarantee the appearance of any specific actor due to illness or unforeseen circumstances.
