About Romeo & Juliet

Romeo & Juliet is a ballet adaptation of Shakespeare’s tragic love story, set in Renaissance Italy in the city of Verona. It follows the rivalry between the Montagues and the Capulets, and the love that grows between Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet.

Created by Rudolf Nureyev for Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977, the production is now in its 50th anniversary. English National Ballet Philharmonic perform Prokofiev’s score live.

The story moves from first meeting to final tragedy, with themes of grief and revenge, and descriptions of violence.
