Listen, you won’t hear us diminishing working from home. Typing away while wrapped in your comfiest duvet? Absolutely unmatched. But we all need a change of scenery and routine sometimes. Step forward, Half Space. Part coffee shop, workspace and creative space, its clean setting, minimalist decor, couches, tables, chairs, and greenery make it a strong spot for a morning of deep work. Grab your pour-over or double shot of espresso and lock into that pesky spreadsheet.

Best for: Affordable food on Bold Street
When: Monday – Thursday: 9am-11pm, Friday – Saturday: 9am-1am, Sunday: 9am-10pm
Where: 126 Bold Street, Liverpool, L1 4JA
So, you’re on Bold Street trying to figure out where to get some food before your big afternoon out. Look no further than Cafe Tabac. A Liverpool institution, it has sat at the top of the hill for over 50 years, serving up cracking food and drink all week for genuinely good prices. Lunch and main dishes are served from 12pm Monday to Friday and 1pm on Saturday and Sunday, and while the whole menu looks great, we’d plump for the Fish Finger Butty at £9.75. Add Rita’s skin-on home-cooked chips for £3 and you’re good to go.
Coffi
Best for: Speciality coffee
When: Monday – Friday: 8am-4pm, Saturday – Sunday: 9am-4pm
Where: 8 Pilgrim St, Liverpool L1 9HB
Coffi is a coffee enthusiast’s dream. The team here really know their stuff, regularly serving beans from across the world and occasionally bringing in weird and wonderful varieties you definitely won’t find at mainstream coffee spots. The café looks the part, too, with a slick interior, exposed brickwork and a tucked-away position on cobbled Pilgrim Street. Come here to nerd out about coffee, chat to people who know their beans and leave having tried a flavour you’ve never encountered before.
The Egg Cafe

Best for: Veggie and vegan food
When: Monday – Friday: 9am-10:30pm, Saturday – Sunday: 10am-10:30pm
Where: Top Floor, 16-18 Newington, Liverpool L1 4ED
The Egg Cafe is well loved. Artists, students and locals have been walking up its staircase for the best part of 30 years, and for good reason. The cafe serves veggie and vegan breakfasts from 10am till 1pm, along with delicious all-day dishes like the spicy bean burger and homemade houmous with pitta and salad. Pull up a chair at one of the long, rectangular tables and settle down with your nearest and dearest for a cracking veggie breakfast or brunch.
Lovelocks
Best for: Low-key dates
When: Monday – Friday: 8am-4pm, Saturday: 10am-4pm
Where: 27 Old Haymarket, Liverpool L1 6ER
While we can’t promise that a date at Lovelocks will be the beginning of a lifelong companionship, we certainly think it’ll make a good impression. Just look at it. Laid back, relaxed and pretty, it’s the perfect place to get to know your potential new boo over a cappuccino and some homemade food. Plus, if all goes well, you’re perfectly placed to continue the day by heading on to some of Liverpool’s best pubs.
Minna
Best for: A relaxed Lark Lane brunch
When: Monday – Sunday: 9am-5pm
Where: 94 Lark Ln, Liverpool L17 8UU
Ahh, Lark Lane. There’s plenty to love about this street, and quite frankly, Minna is a huge part of that. Those Turkish eggs? Delightful.
Just a stone's throw from Sefton Park, it’s bright and vibrant, with warm orange decor and shrubbery that make you drop your shoulders and relax as soon as you walk in. As we mentioned, the Turkish eggs are one thing, but the Lark Lane cafe also serves up delicious sandwiches, and of course, gorgeous coffee and matcha. Kick off your day here, take a stroll around Sefton Park and you’ve got the makings of a relaxed weekend right there.
Mon Petit Chou
Best for: Cakes and pastries
When: Wednesday – Friday: 8am-4pm, Saturday: 10am-4pm
Where: 367 Aigburth Rd, Liverpool L17 0BP
We love cake, you love cake. In fact, who doesn’t love cake? Based on Aigburth Road, Mon Petit Chou spends four days of the week serving up cakes and pastries. We’re talking malted milk chocolate and hazelnut pan suisse, strawberry and coconut cloud cakes and all sorts of soft, gooey delights. So, if you’re looking to satisfy that sweet treat craving, Mon Petit Chou should be at the top of your list.

When: Monday – Saturday: 8:30am-9pm, Sunday: 10am-9:30pm
Where: 15 Cleveland Square, Liverpool L1 5BE
Fancy pretending you’re still on holiday? Go to Thoughtfully Cafe and sit outside. Once you’ve got your coffee – and a cake, if you’re feeling particularly fancy – you can park up for an hour and watch people mill around Cleveland Square. It’s relaxing, continental and oh so very cultured. We’d recommend the cinnamon bun.
Key Lime Cafe

When: Monday – Saturday: 9am-5pm, Sunday: 9am-4pm
Where: 178 Market Way, Liverpool L1 1NG
If you’re visiting Liverpool by train, you’ll likely need an energy boost before your day starts. So, forget queuing up for coffee in a packed station and get to Key Lime Cafe instead. It’s opposite Lime Street Station. With cappuccinos and lattes starting at £3.20, it’s not too heavy on the bank balance, and you’re in luck if you’re after some mid-morning fuel, too. Key Lime Cafe serves up cooked breakfasts and American-style dishes, with veggie and vegan options to boot.
Yonder
Best for: Brunch in the Baltic Triangle
When: Monday – Saturday: 9am-4pm, Sunday: 10am-4pm
Where: 44 Simpson St, Liverpool L1 0AX
A good brunch is key to getting the weekend right. Whether you’re having a slow Saturday or getting ready for a packed Sunday, it just sets the tone. And if we were in Liverpool? We’d kick off our day at Yonder. Of course, we’d have to start with something like the breakfast croissant, which pairs delicious ham with melted smoked applewood cheese and scrambled egg. Once you’re done and dusted, head into the Baltic Triangle and enjoy the rest of the afternoon exploring one of Liverpool’s coolest areas.
Whether you’re after a quiet spot to tackle some work, a hearty vegan brunch, an expertly brewed coffee or enough cake to see you through the afternoon, Liverpool’s café scene has plenty to offer. From long-standing city-centre institutions to relaxed neighbourhood favourites, these are some of the best cafes in Liverpool for your next catch-up, coffee break or weekend wander.
