The Jacaranda is a music lover’s dream. After all, not only did The Beatles play their first-ever show here, but the downstairs basement is where Ringo first met John and Paul. How’s that for a slice of history?
Upstairs, there’s a record shop stocked with all the latest vinyl, so spend an hour or so digging through the crates and then admire all your finds while sipping on a nice pint on the ground floor. What a way to spend an afternoon.

It’s a classic watering hole on Dale Street, with the downstairs bar resembling the interior of a ship. While the pub has undergone its fair share of refurbishments, it hasn’t lost an inch of character, looking as wonderful as the ale tastes.

You don’t simply walk into Hobo Kiosk; you experience it. Tucked away on Bridgewater Street, trinkets and treasures adorn the walls, and it feels more like the living room of your eccentric neighbour than a pub in the Baltic Triangle.
Although something tells us that’s the point. Appearance aside, you can catch film nights, quizzes, vinyl events and gigs throughout the week. Don’t leave the Baltic Triangle without experiencing Hobo Kiosk.

Do you love taste testing 10% stouts with unconventional flavours? Get to Love Lane Brewery. You’ll find it on Bridgewater Street, and with three bars, a kitchen and a tasting room, there’s plenty of room to spread out, although the exposed brick and high ceilings keep everything feeling warm and refined.
As well as brewing great beer, Love Lane Brewery also serves up food, including a pan-roasted cod fillet that looks absolutely delicious.

You’ve got a selection of pub dishes that, in all honesty, are hard to beat. That’s without mentioning the craft beer, gin selection and the fact it used to host pre-world championship snooker matches. Drop that fact in and watch your audience be amazed by your knowledge.

The Philharmonic Dining Rooms should be in a museum. No, not because it’s old, but because it looks absolutely spectacular. Take the bar, for example. It’s a massive, oval-shaped island, adorned with mosaic-style design and, of course, lovely beer.
Then you walk into the actual seating area and wonder if you’re actually drinking in a cathedral. We could sit here all day waxing lyrical, so get down there and experience it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed.

If you’ve spent an afternoon marvelling at Liverpool Cathedral and gently strolling round St James’ Garden, walking the eleven minutes it takes to get to Peter Kavanagh’s is, in our eyes, a great idea.
It’s been on Egerton Street for years – since the 1850s, to be precise – and has everything you’d want from an old, stalwart of the city type pub. You’ve got all the knick-knacks hung behind the bar, stained glass and long, circular seats where you can get comfy and waffle on until the sun goes down.

Or, you could head north of the Georgian Quarter, walk ten minutes and find yourself at Ye Cracke. Again, this one’s full of history. Not only has it stood on Rice Street since the 19th century, but John Lennon and Cynthia Powell were frequent visitors in the early days of their relationship.
But why would you go today? Well, it’s got great beer and plenty of character, including The War Office, a small, red hatch where the locals apparently discussed The Boer War way back when.

The Vines isn’t nicknamed ‘The Big House’ for nothing. Just look at it. Sat pride of place on Lime Street since 1907, it’s a massive Edwardian-style building with all sorts of intricate detailing.
And then you go inside. More stately building than boozer, you can sip cask ale, continental lager, spirits and cocktails, all while looking up at a gorgeous stained glass dome as you drink and chatter away. With history, decor and a cracking choice of drinks, you’ve got all the ingredients for one of the best pubs in Liverpool.

If The Baltic Fleet sounds naval-related, that’s because it’s named after the crews of Siberian whaling ships who used to pop in for a drink.
Found on the dock road opposite the Royal Albert Dock, it serves up hearty pub grub throughout the week, and of course, a line-up of beers that we’re sure the seamen of yesteryear would be proud to drink. Rock up, grab a table and a pint, and raise a glass to the sailors who drank here before you.

The Monro

The Monro is pretty hard to miss. Found on Duke Street, it’s painted in a soft coral colour, which is so calm on the senses it makes us want to step inside immediately, to be honest.
The inside is just as nice, too. With old-style furnishings, log fires and exposed brick decor across two floors, your eyes and taste buds will be in for a treat here. Expect cask ales, stouts, pub grub, quizzes and music all week, a perfect place for after work drinks or a weekend in the city.
The Bridewell

We’re not sure if anyone has ever enjoyed a night in the cells, but they’ve definitely enjoyed a night in The Bridewell. An old, 19th-century jail, the cells are now seating areas and instead of serving up gruel, they serve up pints.
The heavy doors are still intact, though, meaning you get a small sense of what it was like to spend the evening behind the door. It’s certainly a unique setting, and aside from the drinks and atmosphere, the owners are more than happy for you to bring in food from the neighbouring Italian restaurant Amalia. A win-win in our eyes.
The Roscoe Head
When: Monday – Tuesday: 11:30am-11pm, Wednesday – Saturday: 11:30am-12am, Sunday: 12pm-11pm
Where: 24 Roscoe St, Liverpool L1 2SX
Fun fact: The Roscoe Head is one of only five pubs in the UK to have been named in CAMRA’s ‘Good Beer Guide’ since 1974. Which basically means: this pub serves great beer.
If you’re partial to a cask ale or stout, and love sitting in an establishment that’s been standing since the 1800s, you won’t get many better than The Roscoe Head. There’s no jukebox, either. So, pull up a stool, grab a beer and impress – or annoy – your mates with the fact that the official beer lover’s guide rates it highly.

You can’t move for Irish bars in Liverpool. To be quite honest, we could spend hours talking about them all, but Shenanigans stands out.
It’s got a charming, cosy vibe and hosts regular events, including traditional Irish folk sessions, comedy nights and live music. It’s a little more low-key than your average Irish bar, making it ideal for authentic music and, of course, a great pint of Guinness.

The Poste House

The Poste House – or The Postie, if you’re local – is a hoot. You’ve got a welcoming atmosphere, quizzes, karaoke and live music throughout the week.
Plus, Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ community absolutely loves this place, so if you’re heading out around The Pride Quarter, it’s an absolute must.

Sure, lots of Liverpool’s pubs serve up the finest, smoothest cask ales, but they don’t serve up IPAs with names like Charismatic Megafauna and Black Hole Starships.
So, if sampling weird and wonderful IPAs, West Coast IPAs, double IPAs and sours is right up your alley, an afternoon or evening at Azvex Brewery is a no-brainer. And if all you want is a few pints with your mates, well, you can find that too. With plenty of space and an outside area for when the sun’s out, Azvex Brewery should be at the top of your list.

We couldn’t leave the craft beer enthusiasts with just two spots, could we? Now, Dead Crafty has a city centre location and an Allerton location, which is great, but for the purposes of the article, we’ll focus on the haunt located on Dale Street.
Put simply, the staff here know their stuff. Best of all, that expertise comes without any snobbery. The atmosphere is welcoming, the staff are happy to offer recommendations and everyone is free to enjoy good beer without taking it too seriously.
