St Patrick's Day: The best Irish pubs in Birmingham

St Patricks Day 2023 is almost upon us, and you know what that means, we all get a day of boozing that we don't have to feel worried about being judged for! However, whilst there are huge swaths of pubs and bars that put on a whole matter of festivities for the day of Irish celebrations, we think that there is truly no place better than an Irish pub for these things. Mainly as they usually have the best Guinness!

So, for all you folks living it up in Birmingham this St Patricks Day, we've put together our definitive list of all the best Irish Bars in the city, to try and give you a nudge in the right direction, and make this year one to remember. O'Neills Broad Street

Where: Broad Street, Birmingham, B1 2HG

Self-proclaimed as the original Irish bar in Birmingham, and for good reason, O'Neill's on Broad Street has been serving up pints of the black stuff for many a year, and with its prime location on Broad Street, it's easily one of the most lively Irish Bars in the city. With a chilled vibe and great value pub food throughout the day, at night, O'Neill's turns into a classical Irish boozer, with people singing and dancing and everyone in a merry mood.

For St. Patricks Day 2023, you bet they won't be going easy either. There will be partying all week from 13th-19th, with Irish craic, exclusive drinks offers, a massive weekend of sport and great entertainment. Basically, you can't go wrong with O'Neills.

Cleary's Irish Bar

Where: 128 Moseley Street, Birmingham, B12 0RY

With an extensive catalogue of live music that regularly has an Irish charm to it, alongside an excellent beer garden, cheap booze, friendly customers, and an overall cosy local pub vibe, you wouldn't be blamed for thinking you'd stepped across into Dublin when you step into this much loved Irish sinking hole in Birmingham. 

For St Patricks Day 2023, the Brum boozer will be pulling out all the stops. Live music will be running all day, with DJ Sham Rocks from 11am, The Brilliant Ash Sheehan from 2pm, The Amazing Jack Banting from 5pm, Dj 8pm - 9pm and then the Outstanding Boyzone v Westlife tribute Act to finish off the day. Proper good craic that you can't be missing out on.

Nortons

Where: 39-45 Meriden Street, Birmingham, B5 5LS 

Described as 'Not Another Irish Bar', Nortons in Digbeth is an independent, family-run Irish boozer that is teeming with whimsy and charm, and boy do they know how to put on live music. With a huge room that holds regular live music to big crowds, usually music of the Irish variety, the venue is unique on this list for the sheer size of it. You know what that means don't you? St Patricks Day in here is absolutely bonkers.

For the 2023 edition, they've got an all-dayer event with swaths of incredible live Irish music acts to treat your ears to while you sip your mandatory Guinness. All Folk'd Up will be providing covers of Irish classics; The Father Teds will be getting the room dancing to their up-tempo arrangements of traditional and more modern Irish songs; regular Rovin Out will also be playing, he's the venue's go-to man for those Irish party anthems, a bit of cheese and a little disco; and closing out the night will be Lampa, a young Birmingham Irish band, keeping it within the Irish Tradition, who incorporating a mix of genres to deliver a dynamic and energetic performance! Belting if you ask us.

The Irish Centre

Where: 205 Wheelers Lane, Kings Heath, Birmingham, B13 0ST 

Despite recently having to move out of the city centre to Kings Heath after 50 years trading there, The Irish centre is still alive and kicking and whilst they may be a bit out of the way now, for those of you who want the fun of Paddys Day without the hustle and bustle of the city centre on the day, then this is the place to be!

They'll be lots on offer including a morning mass with free coffee and cake and then a day and night which we're assured will be full of Irish festivity and lots and lots of booze, we won't judge if you don't drink Guinness, well not to your face anyways!

The Spotted Dog

Where: 104 Warwick Street, Birmingham, B12 0NH

The Spotted Dog is nestled right in the heart of Digbeth, and alongside serving up a healthy dosage of booze, also hosts live music from several genres each week. Jazz, folk and Irish music are the prevalent tones you can hear coming from its walls, and the wholesome, hearty vibe of the place is tough to beat. Plus, you can enjoy this all in its amazing beer garden too.

For St Patricks Day 2023, you can expect the place to be bouncing. With Live traditional Irish music, a great selection of beers, and an atmosphere found in a few other places, it would be a valiant choice for this year's festivities; we'll see you there!
