Skiddle Mix 018 - Scott Lewis (Yousef presents Circus)

Anyone with a passing interest in house and techno in this country will have been greeted this week with the news that Yousef presents Circus announced their birthday line-up. Now side-stepping deftly towards the end of its eleventh year, the Liverpool clubnight is quite simply the standard bearer for excellence in the realm of a four-four beat. Seth Troxler, Scuba, Cassy, Catz N Dogz and of course the man himself Yousef – it doesn’t get much more intense and sophisticated than that.

Of course the heartbeat of the clubnight isn’t just Yousef; the other residents have played a huge role in defining the sound of the event over the years and with this writer having been present at so many Circus’ over the years we can assure you they always deliver and set the tone beautifully. And quite often they out-rank some of their illustrious guests; they’re a great bunch of lads.

Scott Lewis has been a huge component over the years, initially serving as the Afterparty resident before his 4am apprenticeship turned into a permanent residency for the main club. He’s played in every room of every venue the club has been at over the past few years and, alongside the other immovable piece of the Circus aural furniture Lewis Boardman, will be repping the residents for the Birthday showcase at the end of the month.

We thought he was deserving of his own showcase, and this mix captures the sound of Scott perfectly over sixty minutes. Starting with deep and spacy sounds, it quickly picks up the pace into bassy grooves and acid tweaks and is evidence of why he’s so highly regarded by the clubnight’s frequent regulars.
