The Ministry of Sound is set to undergo a major transformation ahead of its 35th anniversary year. The London club, which opened in 1991, will retire its long-renowned Martin Audio system in favour of a new, custom four-point KV2 sound system, and are increasing its capacity by approximately 200 people.

Ministry of Sound’s main room, The Box, is receiving a 9m² state-of-the-art overhead light installation from design studio Lucid Creates, who’ve created stages and large-scale installations for the likes of Pacha Ibiza, Glastonbury and Boomtown. The DJ booth will additionally be lowered and rebuilt as a modular structure allowing for alternative formats like 360-degree setups, backed by an elevated backstage area surrounding the DJ booth. The new sound system will be installed by audio-visual equipment supplier Patchwork London.

The Box is set to reopen on Friday 30th January with a pair of huge parties from &friends, Moeaike, and Joezi. Saturday 31st January sees a high-profile B2B from Pete Tong and Kölsch, joined by Lauren Lo Sung and Jansons. Matt Long, Ministry of Sound’s club director, said the redesign will “fully transform the room into a future-facing club space while preserving its industrial spirit… This renovation allows us to reset that standard for the next generation to continue evolving the space without losing its identity.”

Ministry of Sound’s 35th anniversary year will continue with a series of special shows featuring artists like Todd Terje, Ron Trent, Joe Claussell, Eats Everything, and more behind the decks.
