Is there a more divisive figure in modern popular music than Kanye West? The rapper/producer/fashion icon/world's biggest bellend, depending on what side of the fence you sit on, splits opinion like no other, and that will only continue with news MTV have offered him the ultimate honour at the VMAs.

West will be honoured for his "ground-breaking videos, legendary performances and continued impact on music, art, fashion and culture", for an accolade which is frequently described as the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, and counts MadonnaBritney Spears, Justin Timberlake and The Rolling Stones among its previous winners.

The VMAs are of course the scene for one of West's most notorious moments, when he interrupted Taylor Swift (nominated for nine gongs at this ceremony) winning an accolade he felt Beyonce was more deserving of. It's hard to dispute his brilliant music video track record though, particularly the immense 'Runaway' above.
