Damon Albarn’s virtual supergroup, Gorillaz, is teasing new music, and it’s coming just in time for their 25th anniversary blow-out.

As the band prepares to mark a quarter-century of genre-bending creativity, the Blur frontman has revealed that a brand-new Gorillaz album is in the works and could arrive later this year. Speaking in an interview with Channel 4 presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Albarn - joined by Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett - said, “I’ve been incredibly busy making music… I suppose I’m going to have to share some of it soon.” The record is set to feature songs in four different languages, though the pair held back from revealing any track titles or collaborators.

This musical tease comes hot on the heels of their upcoming ‘House of Kong’ exhibition and a run of four exclusive London shows at the Copper Box Arena marking the anniversary, where each of their first three albums - the self-titled Gorillaz, Demon Days, and Plastic Beach - will be performed in full, plus a final “Mystery Show” to close the curtain.

Stay tuned for more updates on Skiddle as they come.
