Following a summer break after the lights last dimmed at Mint Lounge, Manchester’s iconic and longest-running club night Funkademia is back with a new place to call home. A cornerstone of the city’s nightlife scene, Funkademia’s next venue is none other than famed Oxford Road haunt The Deaf Institute, and they’re throwing a big launch party to celebrate.

All three floors at The Deaf Institute will be transformed every Saturday night, each having its own distinct feel. Classic funk, soul, and disco will be spun in The Music Hall, while hip-hop and R&B will be pumping downstairs in The Boombox Room. If those two floors weren’t enough, you can indulge in the intimate downstairs bar’s pure grooves and special guests, also available to hire out for your own celebrations.
Expect the same signature blend of delicious genres that club-goers have come to expect from Funkademia since they first started lighting up dancefloors almost three decades ago. The club night first breathed life in 1995 at the fabled and much-missed Boardwalk on Little Peter Street before last calling Oldham Street’s Mint Lounge home for many years. Funkademia’s time at Mint Lounge may be over, but its Get On Down residency will still rage on every Friday night at Exhibition.
Get your dancing shoes on and don’t miss the start of Funkademia’s new chapter at The Deaf Institute. Tickets for the opening night on Saturday 21st September are available now, right here on Skiddle. See you under the disco ball!
