Daphni, aka Dan Snaith of Caribou fame, has today released his first solo single since 2022, ‘Sad Piano House’, out now via Jiaolong. The single also comes alongside the announcement of a 7-hour set from Daphni at London’s Fold on 22nd November.
‘Sad Piano House’ represents something of a continuation in the Daphni catalogue with its roots growing from ‘Cloudy’ - a fan-favourite from his 2022 album Cherry - and its subsequent Kelbin remix. Something in its makeup had a profound effect when played on dancefloors by Snaith and countless others, and ‘Sad Piano House’ deploys more of those intangibly irresistible bendy piano lines to equally satisfying effect.

Speaking of the track, Snaith said: “I DJ'd a lot last year in the lead up to the Caribou album and inevitably ended up making a bunch of new music to play out in those sets. I'd made this one but knew that I wasn't sure about it or when it would ever get a release, so I sent it over to Ben UFO, and he started playing it, and people started asking me about it.
“Now I've finally got a chance to finish it off and release it. I'd given it the temporary title 'sad piano house' when I sent it because it's piano house... but, you know, not that kind of piano house... I didn't really intend for that to be the final track title, but once it appeared in a couple of tracklists for radio shows and people started asking about it, the title stuck.”
With more new Daphni tracks to come, Snaith will be DJing across the summer and has just announced a special 7-hour set at London’s FOLD on 22 November.
Having just played as Daphni at the debut of Floating Points’ Sunflower Soundsystem at Gala Festival (as well as headlining the Sunday as Caribou), Daphni will be headlining the Glade Dome at this year’s Glastonbury and playing a show in Bristol at Prospect in October.
