The Steel City is the buzzing epicentre of south Yorkshire, and whilst there are loads of things you can do in Sheffield, with the way things are at the minute, you may be priced out of a lot of things. So, we wanted to let you in on some of our favourite cheap things to do within the seven hills of Sheffield. 

Whether you're after a day out strolling around a sculpture park, taking in the fantastic artwork and views; you want to sit back and rediscover your inner child's love of boardgames; or maybe you want to unearth some football heritage by visiting the oldest football club in the world, whatever your desires, we think this list will have you sorted. So, what are you waiting for, get scrolling and start planning that next trip to Sheffield!

 

 

Laugh the night away at Leadmill Comedy Club

Who doesn't love a good laugh eh? Well, whilst Sheffield may not be well known for its comedic output (sorry Micheal Palin we still love you) the incredible value on offer at Leadmills comedy club cannot go amiss. The night sees four comedians, three doing sets and one comparing, alongside a resident food vendor and obviously, Leadmills bar, it's an incredible night and tickets are less than a tenner! A chance to see some of the biggest and best comedians alongside some of the best up-and-coming talents on the scene, these nights never miss, and you'll be coming back every month for more.

Indulge in artistic wonders at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Price: General entry £6, in Full-time Education £3, Under 18s Free

Where: West Bretton, Wake?eld, WF4 4LG

Now, whilst a tad outside the city (about a half-hour drive) Yorkshire Sculpture Park may be the best place on this list. A sprawling park complex that's natural beauty just about matches the beauty of the stunning artwork that peppers the landscape. With sculptures that will have you both thinking and sometimes laughing at their absurdity, an onsite cafe and restaurant to provide some chill time, and an indoor exhibit that constantly changing to feature awesome collective works by some o the best sculpture artists in the world, its truly the best thing to do for cheap in Sheffield (or close to Sheffield if we're being picky.) Shoot some pool at Common Room

Price: Pay by the minute, prices change during peak times, check their website for more details

Where: 1st floor, 127-129 Devonshire St, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S3 7S

Fancy sinking a few bevs and smashing in some pool balls to your mate across the tables misery, well, so we have the place for you. Common Room is a sports bar and eight-ball paradise, with a huge number of pool tables - and even a few ping pong tables for those of you who prefer the bat to the cue - there's always room for you to come and have a game. Plus, with a unique, pay-by-the-minute policy on the tables, it really is great value and easily one of the best cheap things to do in Sheffield.

Ditch Monopoly and try something new at Treehouse Board Game Cafe

Price: £7-£15 table hire, depending on how long you want to stay and how many people you go with

Where: 41 Boston St, Highfield, Sheffield S2 4QF

Do you have fond memories of your times as a kid playing games on a board before the Xbox and Playstation took over, well there are few places better to recapture that joy than Treehouse Board Game Cafe in Sheffield. What's even better is that with over 800 games, spanning multiple players and difficulty ratings, you'll have a greater selection than what your parents had in the cupboard, that's right, no Monopoly, Hungry Hungry Hippos or Mouse Trap... I mean they probably still do have these but come on, be adventurous. not only this but the onsite cafe serves up delicious coffee and cakes alongside some alcoholic beverages if you are that way inclined on game night. A left0field but wholly enjoyable time when looking for cheap things to do in Sheffield, just try not to fallout with everyone when you lose.

 

 


 

Go and watch Sheffield FC, the world's first football team play

Where:  Sheffield Rd, Dronfield S18 2GD

This is one for you footy fans out there. Whilst many do know that Sheffield is renowned as the world home of football, you'll be interested to know that both United and Wednesday aren't actually the oldest clubs in the city. that title belongs to Sheffield FC. Based just outside the city in Dronfield, games at The Home of Football Stadium are cheap, fun and come with all of the joys of non-league football. With fans coming from around the world to watch the side play, it's a quality slice of football heritage that has to be on any fan of the beautiful games list. Plus, with matchday tickets only £5, it's one of the coolest cheap things to do in Sheffield. Who knows, you may even become a fan after the experience!

For those of you more inclined to chill out and have a boozing session when you're visiting another city, then, when looking for cheap things to do in Sheffield, then there are few better things to do than relax on one of its rooftop, or beer gardens. Whether you're after stunning skyline views of the city, a hip (if slightly expensive) pint in the cool area of Kelham Island, or a sprawling outdoor drinking complex that you won't want to leave, Sheffield has you covered. It's the perfect place to relax for an afternoon and then realise quite just how much you've had to drink when you eventually stand up and it all rushes to your head.

Shop, eat and drink the night away at Peddlers Market

Price: Free entry, but loads of vendors and shops to go to

Where: 92 Burton Rd, Neepsend, Sheffield S3 8BX

One of the coolest weekend activities on offer once a month in the city, Peddlers Market brings some of the city's vest and brightest creatives together in one collaborative space for hundreds to enjoy. With locally brewed beers, some of the best food vendors in the city, and some awesome independent shops selling everything from local crafts to jewellery to stunning prints, it's impossible to get bored here. Plus with free entry, and all this to choose from, it's really one of the best cheap things to do in Sheffield. just be warned that it is a very popular event, so get there early to be sure not to miss out!

Discover the wonders of nature at Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre

Price: Adult £14.99, Child £13.99, Concessions £13.99

Where: Woodsetts Rd, North Anston, Sheffield S25 4EQ

When you think of Zoos, you think of elephants and lions and maybe even monkeys, but, have you ever visited an alternative zoo? I know what you're thinking: Eh? What's one of them? Well, it's so much cooler than it sounds. Sheffield's Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre is an absolute gem, with an indoor rainforest, frequent hands-on animal encounters, free-flying birds, and a chance to see and learn about the habitat and lifestyle of lemurs, meerkats, owls, otters, snakes, and other amazing creatures; what's not to love? It's an incredible day out with the kids and really won't cost too much, with cheap individual tickets and great deals on families. It's funny seeing a tropical paradise in Yorkshire, but it sure is amazing!
