Bloc Party to be honoured at this year’s Ivor Novello Awards

Two decades after Bloc Party’s debut Silent Alarm woke up the indie landscape, The Ivors are set to honour the original members at their upcoming 70th edition, which will take place at Grosvenor House in London on Thursday 22nd May 2025. 

The group’s four original members Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes, and Matt Tong will receive an Ivor Novello Award in the Outstanding Song Collection category, commemorating 25 years of cutting-edge indie rock. Formed in London in 1999, the group rose to fame with their initial EPs before their revered debut Silent Alarm, which fused flecks of electronica and house with infectious and catchy indie rock, catapulted them to acclaim. Four further albums and an abundance of critical success have followed, and Bloc Party remain one of the era’s defining acts. 

The group will join the likes of Queen, Pulp, U2, New Order, Noel Gallagher, and more as the sixty-second inclusion in the Outstanding Song Collection. They won’t be the last to be honoured at this year’s ceremony, and you can expect more to come from these prestigious awards.
