When Billy Fury passed away in January 1983, it was devastating. Like Elvis Presley and John Lennon before him, another hero was gone. But Billy felt closer. Liverpool-born. British rock 'n' roll royalty. Someone you felt you might one day meet.
That sense of connection never faded.
Throughout the 1980s, the journey continued. In 1988, a band was formed and The Stormbeats were soon on the road performing the music of Billy Fury, quickly becoming Manchester Band of the Year on several occasions.
Then came a phone call that changed everything.
Albert Wycherley had heard the band on the radio and invited them to perform at a Billy Fury charity night in Liverpool. Only later did the truth emerge: Albert was Billy's brother. He would be hosting the show and singing Billy's songs himself, backed by Liverpool favourites The Dions, alongside The Undertakers, with compère Frankie Connor.
From that moment on, the connection deepened.
In February 1992, Colin Paul & The Persuaders was invited to perform at a Billy Fury Tribute Weekend in Blackpool. That event became a tradition, one that continues to this day across venues including The Savoy Hotel, Blackpool, The Prince of Wales Hotel, Southport, and The Liner Hotel, Liverpool. Not one Billy Fury weekend has been missed.
For many years, Colin Paul & The Persuaders had the honour of backing Albert Wycherley (Jason Eddie) at shows across the UK, until his passing in 2011.
Now, that journey comes full circle.
Although Billy Fury never played the Cavern Club himself, his legacy belongs here. His music helped kick down the door for British rock 'n' roll, paving the way for generations that followed.
After four consecutive sold-out Cavern Club shows, Colin Paul & The Persuaders return by popular demand.
This is more than a gig.
It's a story.
It's a legacy.
It's Billy Fury - live at the Cavern Club.
