Biography

With a smooth voice, refreshing sound and heartwarming persona, Akin is well on his way to becoming a household name in the UK music industry. Wether connecting to his african roots through jazz, or the outstanding use of futuristic RnB and Gospel vocal harmonies in his songs, the cross-genre artiste is coming with a fresh approach to how music is both created and experienced.

Being the son of a former choir director and musicologist, Akin was exposed to a lot of music from a very tender age. His music loving father helped to cultivate his passion for the art starting by giving him piano lessons at the age of 5. Years on, Akin has now taken after his father and become an experienced choir director in his own right. Aged just 20 years old, he has worked with numerous choirs across the country, among them; the Leeds College of Music Gospel Choir which he currently runs.

A jazz student at the Leeds college of music, with the saxophone as his principal instrument, he studies Simon Kaylor and Jim Correy and Jamil Sheriff to name a few, and has also been taught by the incomparable Ian Bellamy

As a songwriter and musician, Akin draws inspiration from his faith and life experiences. “I really believe that music should be written from a place of realness in order for it to leave a lasting impression on its listener”. He is also inspired by the likes of Brandy, Kenny Garrett, Jill Scott and Joshua Redman, and has derived his unique sound by combining elements from some of his favourite artistes
