Christ-Stéphane Boizi

About

Both accomplished composers and improvisers, this dynamic duo have united to lead an exciting new band. Having performed together for years in Christ-Stéphane’s sextet, their latest project features original works by both Christ-Stéphane and Lauren, supported by a stellar young rhythm section of Jack Thomas, Lorenzo Morabito, and Danny Piers. With performances at renowned venues such as Pizza Express Soho, the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall, and the Jazz Cafe, their shared history and friendship shine through in their electrifying frontline interplay. Breen’s bright, powerful tone melds seamlessly with Boizi’s warm, soulful sound, creating an iconic hard-bop pairing. Meeting at Tomorrow's Warriors and continuing their studies together at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, they are now in their final year.

Lauren Breen, an alto saxophonist, draws inspiration from a lineage of dynamic greats such as Cannonball Adderley, Jackie McLean, and Vincent Herring. Mentored by Tony Kofi, Rachel Cohen, and Jean Toussaint, she has developed a rich sound that soars over her swinging, contemporary hard-bop compositions.

A vibrant new voice on the London jazz scene, Christ-Stéphane Boizi’s music celebrates jazz’s illustrious past while embracing the present and looking to the future. Known for his inquisitive, studious approach, relaxed poise, and warm leadership, Boizi is devoted to exploring the essence of melody, harmony, rhythm, and soul. Learning from masters like Byron Wallen, Trevor Mires, and Winston Rollins, he applies the lessons of jazz’s great history to craft his own compelling sound.
