An intimate evening of jazz standards and classics at Café Yukari, Kew Gardens Station.
Join Mood Indigo Events for the next instalment of Jazz on the Plaza, our monthly live jazz series bringing together exceptional musicians in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
This month, we welcome acclaimed Oxford-based saxophonist Ollie Weston, performing alongside pianist Terence Collie and double bassist Esther Ng for an evening celebrating the timeless music of jazz.
Expect a selection of much-loved jazz standards and classics, brought to life through expressive saxophone, elegant piano playing, swinging rhythms and the spontaneous musical interplay that makes live jazz such a rewarding experience.
Ollie Weston is a versatile and highly experienced saxophonist whose career spans jazz, contemporary music, recording sessions and live performance. His impressive list of collaborators includes Amy Winehouse, Tim Minchin, Bonobo, Frank Turner, the London Jazz Orchestra, Hackney Colliery Band, the Ambient Jazz Ensemble and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.
A graduate of Leeds College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Ollie is also co-leader of the jazz quartet Time Is Of The Essence, as well as an accomplished composer, arranger and educator. He currently leads the Jazz department at the Guildhall School's Junior School and has written jazz education books published by Schott Music.
With his breadth of musical experience and distinctive voice on the saxophone, Ollie brings a wealth of artistry to this special trio performance.
Terence Collie is a jazz pianist, composer and bandleader whose music combines a strong melodic sensibility with a contemporary approach to improvisation. His recent releases include DNA, released on New York-based Adhyâropa Records, alongside his solo piano album Reminiscent and the quartet recording 384,400.
For this concert, Terence returns to the rich repertoire of jazz standards and classics, exploring the melodies, harmonies and rhythmic possibilities that have made this music endure across generations.
Completing the trio, Esther Ng brings the depth, warmth and rhythmic foundation of the double bass. Her role is central to the group's sound, connecting the piano and saxophone while providing the groove and harmonic grounding that allow the music to breathe and develop.
Together, the three musicians will explore the repertoire through attentive interplay, improvisation and a shared appreciation of the jazz tradition.
