I and some friends attended the Red Stripe Band performance in the College Memorial Hall.  The band had been recommended by the friends I was with, who had seen them a number of times before at the old Marlborough Jazz Festival and elsewhere.  The band were as good as they always were, but the Memorial Hall was not the right venue for them - the marquee in the Castle and Ball car park, where they had performed before and which is much more informal, would have been very much better.  In addition, sadly there were only about 12 people in the audience, whereas at the Jazz Festival, their sessions had been a sell-out.   The time of their concert had been changed - this was advertised on social media which passed us by.  I know the Sunday events at the festival were competing with the Euros football final, but it was a great shame that the even wasn't better attended.  Early days perhaps, but I do hope that the Festival does continue and grows.  I think that there is an appetite for more events like this in Marlborough - the recent events at Dan's and in The Parade were very well attended.

Review of Marlborough Festival

In my opinion the festival was badly publicised, some of my local friends did not know it was on. I bought rather expensive tickets for the whole weekend and then was told on the Friday that all the events were actually free, so obviously the organisers did not sell enough tickets. Pretty fed up with this!

I was sick so did not attend: but I think the ticketing should be improved. It too ages for me to find out I could get a ticket for one event (the play) then hard to get ticket, then realised too late would have been eligible for discount. I signed up for updates but didn't get info on prices. Shame because festival a great idea and I contributed crowd source money right at the beginning. Final problem is that this review page doesn't allow me to say 'n/a' !!

The production of The Tempest was excellent.  The venue was changed due to the weather but also worked well and was well communicated.  A lovely surprise in the interval listening to an excellent and enthusiastic choir.

The programme was not very well publicised and there were few people at the Red Stripe Band (who were excellent) which was embarrassing for the band and for us. There could have been more music going on in the afternoon in both the memorial hall and Castle and Ball. Disappointing all round
