This month we are joined by Georgia Griffiths and Lucy Beddall talking about the permission to create and the art of getting noticed.
Come join us at Urban HQ for inspiring talks and connect with our incredible creative community in Swansea with a few drinks and a slice of pizza.
What does it mean to build a creative life when you didn’t necessarily grow up believing that world was for you?
In Permission to Create, Georgia reflects on her journey through poetry, creativity and an unconventional career, exploring the influence of growing up working class in the South Wales Valleys, finding her voice and learning to give herself permission to create.
It’s a personal talk about where creativity comes from, the barriers that can surround it and finding your own way into a creative life.
Georgia is an award-winning performance poet from the South Wales Valleys and a multidisciplinary creative working across TV and film. She won the England Poetry Slam, represented the UK at the Poetry World Cup in Paris and won the Glastonbury Festival Poetry Slam in 2025.
Rooted in her working-class background, Georgia is passionate about championing creativity and making the arts feel accessible to everyone. Through poetry, characters and storytelling drawn from everyday life, her work explores identity, class and the people and places that shape us.
We spend our days making our clients look good. But when it comes to promoting ourselves... we're a bit rubbish.
Graphic design, marketing and communications are crowded industries. So how do you stand out? How do you attract the right clients? What marketing should you be doing for yourself?
Lucy will share some of the things she's learnt over 30 years of working with creatives and some simple marketing ideas you can use straight away.
Lucy Beddall, ten:15 marketing, started her career in the (very) chaotic world of 90s London advertising, working at The Gate on campaigns for brands including Investec, Legal & General, Universal Records and Scope.
These days, safely back in Swansea (and a bit soberer), she specialises in B2B marketing, working with small businesses, universities, manufacturers, B Corps and purpose-led organisations across South Wales, acting as an extension of their team rather than an outside agency.
Alongside client work, Lucy delivers marketing workshops and LinkedIn training for businesses, universities and business support programmes. She believes in keeping marketing simple (and organic), building genuine relationships and getting the basics right.
The event will be held at Urban HQ on37 Orchard Street, Swansea, SA1 5AJ. It's next to the UWTSD ALEX Building and opposite the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
