neu waves presents #159 The Roebucks plus supports
Music Genres
There’s something disorienting about a Roebucks show.
The four people on stage are in their twenties. They are young, but the sound they make is not. Their music is elemental - the low, churning weight of Henry Brown’s bass, Tom Cotter’s wild and untamed guitar, Sophie Moloney’s primal back beat - they’re following a tradition that is earnt not learnt. And up front, Lola Gordon, her raw, aching voice making the room feel bigger and darker than it was a moment before.
This is explosive, full-throttle blues-rooted rock music played with the kind of instinctive authority that it usually takes musicians decades to develop. The Roebucks appear to have been born with it.
