Canterbury's eclectic original music night is bringing the vibes to Margate once more with a stellar lineup from Bristol and Margate.
SURFACE AIR - Prog rock, post punk, no wave (Bristol)
HIPPO - Synth heavy electronic future jazz (Bristol)
JACK GOLDSTEIN - Heartfelt hi-carb hyperpop (Margate)
You have seen Jack performing our nights before with his explosive live show and some of you might remember Hippo blowing the roof off Bramleys and UCA bar in Canterbury many years ago with their powerful and hooky sax, synth and drums lineup. It's the first time for the superb Surface Air which features the drummer from My Octopus Mind and Stanlaey and the guitarist from Jackabol who came with their prog folk epic earlier this year.
Tell your friends, it's going to be a banger!

SURFACE AIR (post prog)
From the splintering bone-ashes of progressive rock and post-punk springs a rare bird of apocryphal breed. Surface Air are poised to unleash aural intoxication upon the unsuspecting and the good in 2027 and beyond.
HIPPO (Jazz / Electronica)
“There's only 3 of them, but it sounds humongous"
BBC Radio 3 - Jazz Now
Hippo thrives in the hinterland between jazz and
electronica. Bursting with buoyant melodies and the
adrenal energy of a band stretching their shows to the
edge of possibility, the trio continues to make a
colossal sound far beyond what their three-piece
stature should permit.
Saxophones, synthesisers and drums go in, Hippo
comes out.
“Brilliant new band from Bristol”
Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2
Jack Goldstein
Jack Goldstein has completed his new solo album, a 46 minute 'hyper-country' odyssey through the backwoods of love, identity and resilience in the face of a world turned upside down.
Following on from the

is ending and i

u, an album about losing both his parents during the lockdown, HELLFIRE BUMPER STICKER COWPUNCHING JEWBOY is an album that
transforms Goldstein's grief into strength and resilience.
After finding modest success with the band Fixers in the early 2010s, Margate’s Goldstein - who was more enamored with heavier brands of rock music before going down the Beach Boys
rabbit hole - struck out solo. He (partially) jokes it was to escape multi-part harmony, but the truth shines through in the records. Fixers - which in many ways rode the late-2000s/early-2010s indie psych pop wave established with bands such as MGMT, AnCo,
Yeasayer and others - gives way to a sound that might incorporate a similar aesthetic backbone, but shifts melody and mode at the drop of a dime, pulling in country as a primary influence
(‘erratic psychedelic country pop’ might be the simplest way to describe the record’s sound) on the new record, but also drawing from hip-hop, ambient, and field recording to create what might
be 2025’s most wildly ambitious album.
