Oh, Mary! at Trafalgar Theatre is a dark comedy by Cole Escola, directed by Sam Pinkleton. Set in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, it looks at the overlooked life and ambitions of Mary Todd Lincoln through a sharply comic lens.
The play focuses on unrequited yearning, alcoholism and suppressed desires in an 80-minute one-act format. It received Tony Awards for Best Leading Actor in a Play and Best Direction of a Play, and The New York Times described it as one of the best comedies in years.
For the London transfer, the production continues to be presented as a fast-moving comic play with a strong focus on character and period setting.
