The Standard Of Living

About The Standard of Living

The Standard of Living opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 21 September for a strictly limited 12-week season. This world-premiere play by Olivier Award-winning playwright James Graham follows economist and member of the Bloomsbury Group John Maynard Keynes, moving between Whitehall and a circle of artists, writers and lovers as Britain faces market crashes and rising turmoil.

Directed by multi award-winner Nicholas Hytner, the production brings together music, dance, desire and debate in a portrait of a man asking what makes a good life. It is set against the corridors of power, personal relationships and the collapse of old systems.

Starring Rory Kinnear and Royal Ballet principal Natalia Osipova in her West End debut, the play explores happiness, beauty and love through Keynes’s life and ideas.
