The Standard Of Living

About The Standard of Living

The Standard of Living at Theatre Royal Haymarket is a brand new world-premiere play by the Olivier Award-winning playwright James Graham, directed by multi award-winner Nicholas Hytner.

The play tells the story of economist and Bloomsbury Group member John Maynard Keynes, moving between the corridors of power in Whitehall and a radical circle of artists, writers and lovers. It centres on his life with ballerina Lydia Lopokova and his relationship with Duncan Grant, alongside his friendship with Virginia Woolf.

Set against market crashes and the collapse of old systems, the production asks what makes a good life and uses music, dance, desire and debate to explore that question.

Key facts: Opening on 21 September for a strictly limited 12-week season. Suggested for ages 12+.
